Workers were beginning installation of geothermal heating for a nearby hotel in Södermalm, Sweden when they drilled though a parked subway car beneath the earth’s surface. These things do not happen in a vacuum. The subway location should have been verified during the design process. It is impossible to say who is at fault given the information in the article, but it will almost certainly come down to either an engineering design error, or a survey error. Easements exist for such things. I would not want to be the one who missed it. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
